Challenge
A fractured landscape of looks and feels
While Clarivate has a strong product team of digital pros, they mostly need to remain heads-down, moving their experiences forward. They understood the design debt that existed across experiences was severe but lacked the necessary focus to bring all the groups under a single source of truth. Leadership recognized the need and asked our team to develop an MVP design system they’d call CDX (Clarivate Design Experience). For any solution to be successful, we’d need to gain consensus on the problems, the approach, and the solution with complete buy-in across a vast product organization.
Process
A systematic approach to getting buy-in
Before we started making any decisions impacting the entire enterprise, we needed to more clearly understand the business, its users, and the needs of each product lead. Stakeholder interviews, strategy presentations, and product audits provided our framework for prioritizing what the system would need to do around the core components, patterns, and templates that would deliver the most significant impact for MVP.
Solution
A foundation for delivering consistency
Spark created a robust MVP design library, which provided a unified language for cross-functional teams, delivering visual consistency and efficiency for design and development. With this design framework and governance documentation, Clarivate product owners and designers could apply the CDX appropriately, creating a first wave of harmonious applications for Clarivate’s data and analytics products.
